Hiking

Our inn is the perfect starting point for hikes of all difficulty levels in Gosau. These range from the family-friendly 1-hour walk around lake "Gosausee" to the more difficult ascent of the Dachstein glacier (see trail map below).

There is also the possibility to go up the Gosaukamm mountain by cable car which is located just in front of the house (Gosaukammbahn). From there you can start one of the many walking tours. The public alpine huts invite you to take a break and enjoy the amazing view and to try regional specialities. The excursion train which stops in front of the house gives you the opportunity to visit the mountain area without walking.

Hohe Holzmeisteralm (mountain hut) at upper Gosau lake

At the end of Gosau valley at the upper Gosau lake the Hohe Holzmeister mountain hut is located at an altitude of 1.164 metres above sea level. You can hike there in around 1.5 hours and have a cold drink or a snack there. Alternatively you can go there by an excursion train (Hochgebirgsexpress) which is going there only on advance booking. If you want to go there please call the local tourist office via 0043 59 509 520!

Löckernmoos highmoor and grindstone quarries

Lake „Löckernsee“ was chosen as the most beautiful natural place in Upper Austria in 2015 (9 Plätze 9 Schätze). You can go there in around 2 hours from Gosau Hintertal (starting point near inn Gosauschmied). After 1.5 hours you reach Badstubn mountain hut where you can enjoy a small refreshment after a long walk and have a look at the old grindstone quarries. From the hut you walk another 30 minutes until you reach the highmoor.

The Gosauer Bummelzug (another excursion train) goes from Gosau Hintertal right to the Badstubnhütte or the Plankenstein mountain hut. For reservations please call the local tourist office via: 0043 59 509 520
